This week on American Real, we bring you a story of a dark underground reality on a subject not often discussed... human trafficking, which exists right here in our country. Salka Valerio is our featured guest and her story begins in an abusive household where at the young age of thirteen she attempted to take her own life by way of suicide. A year later, Salka ran away from home before ending up in the hands of human traffickers. Her living nightmare continued for five years, taking her from one trafficker to another who all instilled fear and preyed on her vulnerability forcing her into prostitution. I can only give praise to Salka who went through so much, yet had the courage and determination to find a way to escape before starting her life anew. Today, she works in law enforcement helping those in need and working to eliminate human trafficking.
