This is Part 2 of our interview with Joseph Yannuzzi, who from the age of 18 to his mid-50's, battled with many addictions such as narcotics and alcohol. He spent over 20 years of his life in jails, prisons and institutions. Our guest takes full responsibility for his actions and reminds us that addiction is an everyday battle. On this week's show, Joseph discusses how difficult it was for him to admit addiction is a disease, his struggles with anger and anxiety, as well as his continued remorse and regret.

"This idea of being mindful, actually is a step of being more human." In the business world, the idea of mindfulness is being embraced. Aditya provides tools and examples of how to incorporate mindfulness into your daily life and what benefits it provides, while encouraging:

-Being more mindful and appreciative when talking to family members.

-If there is conflict, take a step back, and don't be reactive in the moment.

This week on American Real our guest is John Solak. John and I sat down for a two hour interview that we decided to split into two parts. In Part 1, John describes himself as a product of the 60’s and how as a young man he became interested in Urban Renewal, which was created at the time by MIT. He says this was the time period when the United States wanted to change the inner cities by introducing highways and “busting up” ethnic neighborhoods for political gain. He speaks about his activism and the importance of having colorful figures as leaders, describing many of them over the generations.

In addition, John expresses his opinion on a number of topics including the mob, big business, immigration, health care, government, creativity, the elite and much more. By the end of Part 1, John opens up about why his activism is important in order to hold those in power accountable, and says that he and others would be out of business if there was a track record of success.

EPISODE #124 | FROM THE WHEELCHAIR TO THE NFL

 

Welcome to episode 124 of American Real, where this week we bring you the inspirational story of Leroy Collins. 

 

Leroy says, “In life, you are going to face many challenges. Challenges that are going to to make you want to give up. Challenges that are even going to question your existence. We must remember challenges are supposed to make us stronger, make us wiser.”

 

In 1982, at the age of six, while playing outdoors with his younger brother, Ernie and his cousins, the unthinkable happened. Ernie ran into the street and Leroy tried to stop him from being hit by a U-Haul style truck, but it was too late. Ernie was hit first and then Leroy. The impact was hard and direct, as Leroy was tossed into the air before being run over by the truck which dragged him for a block and a half. The tragic story and Leroy’s survival is nothing less than a miracle, and it’s all documented in his newly released book, The Running Back: True Story From The Wheelchair To The NFL.

Jacob is currently the lead broadcaster for the Binghamton Rumble Ponies, the New York Mets double-a affiliate. Previously, Jacob worked in the Big Apple where he anchored reports for WFAN, CBS Sports Radio, and Sirius XM Radio, along with broadcasting games for LIU Brooklyn. While at the FAN, Jacob filled in to host the Yankees Postgame Show, along with contributing to the station’s coverage of the NY Giants, NJ Devils, and Brooklyn Nets. I’m glad we caught up with Jacob who shared his personal playbook, because there’s no doubt he’ll one day end up in the Bigs.
