Have you ever had a chance to sit down with a Neurosurgeon for a candid discussion? I hadn’t either... until now, and I’m happy I did.
Welcome to Episode 64 of American Real. Our guest this week is Neurosurgeon, Dr. Khalid Sethi. Originally from Pakistan, the doctor came to the US to attend University, without any plans of becoming a physician. As an undergraduate, he studied Chemical Engineering and Thermo Dynamics before becoming interested in medicine. In our discussion, the doctor explains the incredible advancements in neurosurgery—a medical specialty concerned with the prevention, diagnosis or surgical treatment, which can affect any portion of the nervous system including the brain, spinal chord or peripheral nerves.
In addition, Dr. Sethi goes deep into philosophy, discussing the wisdom he gained over the years. I learned a tremendous amount by listening to him and I walked away feeling I have a better skillset and greater appreciation for investing in myself and my core relationships. Dr. Sethi said, “Whatever you do, give it 110% and don’t do it because you’re expecting something in return.” He added, "Invest in yourself. You are your own best annuity.” There are many diamonds scattered throughout this episode. Listen carefully as he touches on topics such as persistency, altruism, humility, charity and much more.

Alan Trager is the former CEO of WJCS, a not-for-profit agency in Westchester County of New York. It is the county's most comprehensive mental health and services organization for children, adults and families. None of us ever stop learning and I’m certainly no exception. Recently, I’ve been listening and paying attention to David Neagle, host of The Successful Mind Podcast. David talks about the laws of the universe, which he’s been studying for more than 30 years, after he had a traumatic boating accident that almost took his life. He applied the learnings to his own life. He started his career out as a forklift driver, eventually becoming a self-help/ personal growth coach, where he’s now helping people tap into their own belief systems to be able to accomplish whatever it is they want to achieve.
