Happy Father's Day to all the wonderful dad's in the world!
On this week’s episode of American Real, we bring you a special Father’s Day edition with my Dad, My Hero, Roger D. Brooks. As the patriarch of our family, my father has lived out a lifelong legacy of kindness and goodness touching countless lives over his 80-years.
Not only is he a family man, but my dad has genuine care for people with an extended network of family and friends that reaches near and far.
I have had the honor and privilege of watching and learning from him my entire life, as he lives his own by being REAL… a role model of honesty, integrity and wholeness. But, my father’s story doesn’t end there. In fact, it’s only the beginning.
My father is an identical twin, but the twins were separated at birth… adopted and raised more than one thousand miles apart.
My father grew up in Miami.
His twin brother Tony was raised in Upstate New York.
As fate would have it, at the age of 25, they would be reunited in a moment of mistaken identity.
My dad provides specific details of their story in this episode… some he’s never revealed before about the experience and how it changed the course of his life.
After their reunion, the twins were asked to go on countless talk shows and news programs, sharing their story with the world. Eventually, they were asked to be the subject of a book, The Twins Who Found Each Other, documenting the details of their life journey.
In addition, they became the subjects of many scientific experiments regarding nature vs. nurture, revealing the incredible power of our genetic makeup, no matter our environment.
My father always says, “There’s no stronger bond than having a twin… there’s is no stronger relationship then having an identical twin.
He often asked his twin brother and his brother often asked him… what would it have been like if they were raised together. They both agreed and saying, it’s something we’ll never know… that’s it, it’s something we’ll never know.”
On August 16, 2016… my father lost his brother… his other half. On that day, he also lost a big piece of his heart…
I’ve been holding back this episode for months… wanting to release it on Father’s Day, because to me, the greatest gift I can give anyone, is the gift of a person’s voice in sharing their story.

This week on American Real, we bring you Dr. Matthew Regulski, foot and ankle surgeon, who specializes in diabetic reconstructive surgery, limb salvage and wound healing. Describing the worldwide lack of interest and concern over the disease, Dr. Regulski coined the term, Diabetic Apathy, and discusses that if the trends continue, by the year 2030, one out of every four people in the world will be diagnosed with diabetes. As an advocate of the American Diabetes Association, his mission is to continue to spread the word about the disease, which he feels most patients still underestimate the destruction diabetes plays in their bodies, as a silent killer. Dr. Regulski goes on to explain how diabetes effects every system in the body, yet it takes time for complications to occur. This week we bring you King Rice, head basketball coach at Monmouth University. From the first day I met King, I knew he was a special individual; not only did he have tremendous athletic ability, but he also had a mental maturity, which provided him with the foundation to become a natural-born leader.
From playing grammar school basketball while in 4th grade, to becoming a high school All-American and receiving a full UNC Basketball scholarship to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, King has built a life and career around the game. As the head Monmouth Basketball coach, he says his journey has just begun. With the support of his incredible family, and the community that raised him, King is determined to make an even greater impact in the years ahead.
In our conversation, King talks about his journey as a basketball player and coach, his highs and lows in life including a battle with alcohol, as well as insights into the many people in his life that made an impact on him—including coaches Tom Corgel, Roy Williams and Dean Smith, who all helped shape the coach he is today.
King and I have built a friendship that has lasted a lifetime and I am grateful to bring this episode to you, as he is one of my most favorite people in all the world. I’m happy to be able to share a small piece of his story with you.

American Real receives an education about Cooperative Extensions that exist within every state through the country at more than 100 land-grant colleges and universities, providing a critical mission for bringing vital and practical information to agricultural producers, small business owners, consumers and families… all under the guidance and funding of the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the National Institute of Food and Agriculture.
Vicki discusses her journey of entering career in agriculture, and how over a 19-year period she was able to sustain and thrive to the position of executive director.
In our conversation, we talk about her vision, resiliency, sacrifice and hope… and how she followed her internal voice that told her to, “Be still.”

AR EXCLUSIVE EPISODE | SAMMY DAVIS | LAW ENFORCEMENT AMBASSADOR
This week on American Real, we bring you Sammy Davis, Sergeant and Director of Training for the Broome County Police Academy in Upstate New York.
Sammy takes us along for a Sunday street ride on his lifelong journey, which wasn’t always smooth. As the youngest of 12 children, there were lots of bumps in the road which he was challenged to overcome, including losing both of his parents before the age of thirteen. He had to learn how to stand up for himself and in the process developed a gift in standing up for others, hence thriving in his law enforcement career.
The Sergeant tells us about how he’s found his passion in helping to develop some of New York’s finest of tomorrow. On this Mother’s Day, Sammy Davis gives a great deal of credit to his wife, Amira Davis, who helped him navigate the system, which propelled his career. I applaud Sammy for his incredible determination and thank him and all the men and women of law enforcement for their tireless service. I’m honored to deliver the Sergeant’s empowering story with you today.

The Bishop's upbringing consisted of ingredients including family, music and religion, which he found later would forever shape his life. His desire to play the organ in church, combined with a need to help the community — especially guiding young men and women — helped propel the making of an award-winning choir, who would go on to perform in cities throughout America.
Bishop Simpson provides insight into how real people, who have real problems, seek real answers. I ask him some tough questions including what he says to people who are suffering, and what he thinks happens after we die. The Bishop expands on his ingredients of finding happiness, and the meaning behind his favorite saying, “I don’t want to miss it.” Over time, his natural calling to teach the scripture, guided him to build his own community and church after his life-changing encounter with God.
