EPISODE #21 | DAVID SCHUMANN | NEVER STOP BELIEVING
Wednesday Jan 24, 2018
Wednesday Jan 24, 2018
This week, American Real sits down with David Dickinson Schumann — artist, hair-stylist and philanthropist whose rich history and upbringing brings us back to when his great grandfather, A. Ward Ford, together with Harlow and Willard Bundy, built CTR, short for Computing-Tabulating-Recording-Company, later hiring Thomas Watson before changing the name to IBM. David takes us on his life journey where he attended art school in the disco era, later finding his passion as a hairstylist and living it out in Boston, a city he thought he would never leave. Our frank conversation touches on when he was bullied in middle-school, he opens up about his sexuality, drug addiction, religious and political views, as well as the changes he made in his own life, where he literally found New Hope as well as a new home. Today, after two heart attacks, he is focused as remaining healthy, as well as his re-newed interests in reading, exercise and medication. But more importantly, just as he has his entire life, David has a genuine care of all people, giving them new hope to believe in themselves, while pointing out, we are all fortunate to be living in such a great time period, hence Never Stop Believing.

EPISODE #20 | LISA MAY | FEARLESS EXPLORER AT WORK
Sunday Jan 07, 2018
Sunday Jan 07, 2018
This week on American Real, we take you to London, for our 20th episode filmed at the breathtaking St. Pancras Renaissance Hotel, where we sit down with Lisa May, founder and host of Expat Real and who is part of the London Real family, where she's acted in the capacity of instructor, team leader and community manager at the London Real Academy.
Our conversation includes Lisa's expat lifestyle, how she teaches those who are interested in the same, as well as what ultimately gave her the courage to make this drastic lifestyle change, which she so enjoys. We discuss her fascinating upbringing growing up in New York City in the 1980's, her time spent at Washington Park and her motto at the time, which was, "You need to leave your street corner." Today, in many ways, Lisa still lives by those same words... as she talks about the importance to explore, travel and need to get out of your comfort zone. Halfway through the episode, Lisa, for the first time, reveals the identity of her father and tells of how her parents met in the late 1960's. Then, at the end of the filming, we leave you with an amazing discovery, which you will NOT want to miss!

EPISODE #19 | RAY STANTON | WHATEVER IT TAKES!
Sunday Dec 31, 2017
Sunday Dec 31, 2017
Did you ever stop and think that a positive attitude may just be the key ingredient to leading a fulfilling life?
Giving that little extra in whatever you do.
Leading by example and not being so uptight.
Giving a thousand times more than you receive.
Finding and cultivating your passion.
Knowing you are who you spend the most time with.
Being comfortable on the inside — having nothing to prove.
Putting family and good friends above all.
These are just a few of the traits of Raymond H. Stanton, II — our guest this week on American Real. His story is one of strength, passion and determination.
Spending most of my professional career working closely with Ray and his family, he'd often tell us to do "whatever it takes" to get a task done. That has always stuck with me.
His leadership gave us the confidence to become one of the fastest growing companies in America, for three straight years!
Ever since my early days working at Dine-A-Mate, I never want to give up on anyone, or anything.
I have always felt a sense of satisfaction in completing whatever I set out to do.
I owe a great deal to Ray.
I have learned that we are all capable of so much more.
We have a lot to offer the world—each of us.
These days, I don't waste a minute of time. From the moment I open my eyes I try to live each day as if it's my last, as we just don't know when that day will come.
It's no coincidence that Ray Stanton is our last episode of the year, and our first episode of the new year. I hope my conversation with him sparks a little something within you. I hope the passion in his voice gives you some extra drive. I hope he motivates you to do WHATEVER IT TAKES to help you better fulfill your life and the lives of those around you.
Happy New Year! Here's to 2018!!
—Roger Brooks?

EPISODE #17 | BEN JOHNSON | BEYOND REAL
Wednesday Dec 27, 2017
Wednesday Dec 27, 2017
Welcome to our 17th episode of American Real, where this week our guest is Ben Johnson, a British painter known for his large, detailed cityscapes.
While in England, I had the opportunity to enjoy a cup a tea and sit down with the talented artist in his studio – which sits among a few other dwellings within a quaint courtyard. Ben takes us on a two-hour long journey from his native Wales, to London where he studied at the Royal College of Art… he tells us about short stint in New York before eventually settling in London some 5 decades ago. His works have graced the walls of galleries and museums across the world including, the national Gallery in London, the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool and the Art Institute of Chicago to name a few. What I liked most about Ben Johnson is his willingness to converse openly about his life and talk about the details of his craft and his incredible works of art, which are Beyond Real.
